Roosimine is an Estonian inlay colourwork technique from the island of Muhu that looks similar to embroidery. It is created by deliberately placing floats (threads) of contrasting yarn on the front of your knitted piece. It's a simple way to embellish your knitted piece.

You will learn to read charts and create your first small patterns in Roosimine.

A vikkel is a twisted or traveling stitch pattern used in Estonian knitting that creates a narrow cable pattern without the use of a cable needle. These patterns create beautiful structures and even braids that add dimension to your knitting.

We practice the implementation on a small swatch and learn to read charts.

Your newfound knowledge will help you decipher knitting patterns, and you'll understand why 100 years ago, the import of knitting patterns was banned in Great Britain. In this workshop, we'll explore a selection of cast-on and cast-off methods that go beyond the usual. You'll learn and practice:

  • elastic edges for necklines, cuffs and sock tops
  • structured cuts and hems for clean, crisp lines such as shawl points, button bands or shoulders
  • Two-colour cast-ons for a decorative punch in your

Would you like to knit seamlessly and/or have you ever heard of the new cutting technique of “knitting without seams” invented by Irina Heemann? Not from the top but from the bottom?

We will begin by demonstrating the pattern technique using many samples - finished knitting patterns as well as paper patterns - to understand the basic idea of this unique construction: Everything is based on a triangle and is worked in a diagonal knitting direction.

Afterwards we will implement two practical parts together:

1. shortened & extended rows according to SoN

2. a mini model in triangular shape to better understand the construction and learn certain basic techniques.

One of the most important techniques in (seamless) knitting is the use of extended and shortened rows. This technique allows for both 2D and 3D knitting. We'll examine the important difference between shortened and extended rows using numerous seamless knitting models. Paper patterns will clearly explain the difference and their respective applications. In the practical part, we'll work on knitting samples in various knitting patterns using the seamless knitting method.

The sock that starts with just one stitch and fits like a second skin on the foot thanks to the diagonal knitting direction.

We'll look at what measurements are needed for this sock construction, besides shoe size. What techniques are used when knitting SoN socks? Different sock models, such as the GIGI sock, LOLA sock, etc., will be presented, and the details discussed.

The practical part of the workshop includes different knitting techniques, such as shortened and extended rows, worked according to the SoN method, zdA, 3-needle-bind-off and much more.

In this workshop, you'll learn the "Ply on the Fly" spinning technique. This method combines two steps:

The yarn is first spun from the fiber on a hand spindle and then immediately twisted.

So as soon as it is unwound from the spindle, your yarn is finished and requires no further work steps other than the usual washing.

After an introduction to the legendary Persian Poppy or Magic Ball design with numerous knitted samples, you'll learn how to knit Fair Isle /stranded patterns with two colored threads in one row, carrying yarn in the back. Under guidance, you'll experiment with different color sequences for the foreground and background to create your own unique Magic Ball pattern.

Stacked Stitches is an innovative knitting method for creating multicolored striped patterns without floats in the back. Stacks are used to knit motifs or 3D patterns and replace short rows.

This introductory course to the technique will familiarize you with the basics, and you'll practice stacked stitches under guidance on a swatch. You'll learn how to knit the increases and decreases for various patterns and how to best avoid or correct mistakes.

In this workshop, you'll learn how to create textures, color, or lace patterns based on rules rather than fixed instructions. We'll begin by discussing how to design simple yet highly individual motifs by rolling dice or counting your daily steps, which techniques can be used to create amazing patterns, and how, eg., to knit a shawl using a temperature data sequence.

Crocheting garments requires more than just straight back-and-forth rows. Modern wearable crochet designs often use short rows.

Tuck Stitches anyone?

Materials: Yarn of your choice (not too fine) + matching knitting needle, darning needle, stitch marker, larger gauge or project you want to alter with Tuck Stitches.


Tuck stitches are a simple way to add texture and structure to your knitting project. We'll experiment with a variety of tuck stitches, which you can use individually for embellishment or to create relief-like surfaces. We'll learn how to read the charts. We'll also learn the "subtype" of smocking stitches, which you can use to create structure on finished projects, and then put them into practice together.
