Melanie Berg...

...is a knitwear designer and the founder of the label Mairlynd from Bonn. Knitting is her passion and an expression of her creativity. Each of her designs, whether colorful or simple, tells its own story.

Melanie's work has been published in prestigious magazines in the US and Europe, and her books are published by frechverlag. She particularly enjoys designing shawls that are both stylish and suitable for everyday wear. Inspired by nature, her designs combine modern chic with a touch of playfulness. Knitting connects people, and Melanie loves sharing this passion with others. She is passionate about her engagement in charities against breast cancer and even made the title of German magazine "Spiegel".

She comes to us with four courses, from Sweater Spree to Shawl Love to instructions on how to design your own mosaic shawl.

Meret Butzberger,

...the Swiss knitwear designer, better known as Butzeria.ch, embarked on a creative journey two decades ago. What began as a recovery hobby after a car accident quickly became a passion – knitting. Today, she develops unique designs, from rebellious punk collections to garments inspired by Swiss heritage.

She places great emphasis on clarity and attention to detail in her knitting instructions, which is why her designs are carefully edited and technically tested. This ensures that even beginners can bring her designs to life.

Meret's greatest knitting passion is double knitting, also known as double-face knitting. This special technique allows you to create a knitted piece with two "right" sides in one go, and unlike Fair Isle, there are no floats to see or handle. She passionately teaches this technique nationally and internationally— including at Munich Knits 2025.

Aleks Byrd...

...is a knitting designer, author and teacher with roots in Estonia, Canada and the USA.

Aleks' passion is creating modern patterns with a connection to the past. She develops unique, wearable designs using little-known traditional knitting techniques that are fun for beginners and experienced knitters alike. She publishes her designs online and in international publications such as The Knitter and Laine Magazine. Her latest book, "Traditions Revisited - Modern Estonian Knits," combines her designs and teaching as an introduction to Estonian knitting, both technically and traditionally inspired.

Aleks lived in Munich for several years and also speaks German. In her classes at Munich Knits, you'll learn various Baltic and Northern knitting techniques, including steeking.

Donna Rossa,

...whose real name is Sabrina Schumacher, is a passionate knitter and designer from Switzerland.

Her design style focuses primarily on textures, colors, and geometric patterns. She draws inspiration from nature and architecture, as well as from the places she's visited through her other hobbies, paragliding and kitesurfing. In her classes, she enthusiastically shares her passion for knitting as well as helpful tips and techniques. She will be presenting an introductory lecture on knitting and its history at Munich Knits, suitable for absolute beginners. She also offers a course on understanding English patterns and a workshop for lace pattern beginners.

Julie Dubreux...

...is a French knitwear designer and teacher. She translates her enthusiastic love for the knitwear community into colorful collaborations with hand-dyers and brands worldwide.

You can find Julie's knitting designs in international knitting magazines such as Pom Pom Quarterly, Laine Magazine or Knit Now UK as well as in the books I Knit Paris, My Favourite Things and Homecoming.

Julie is a highly dynamic, extroverted, yet thoughtful and inclusive tutor. Her training as a high school teacher helps her teach groups of knitters with varying skill levels in a way that ensures everyone can participate and no one is left behind. Everyone leaves the workshop with new knitting knowledge and has a great time. During Munich Knits, she teaches various courses in two-color brioche stitch.

Soraya Garcia...

...is a Mexican/Spanish textile and knitwear designer now living in Amsterdam. She designs for international yarn brands such as Myak, La Bien Aimee, and West Wool, as well as for magazines and books published by LAINE.

After five years at the helm of the first independent Spanish-language knitting and crochet magazine, with eight published issues and more than 20,000 copies sold, she decided to focus entirely on her career as a knitwear designer and instructor. She teaches online and at numerous international festivals, such as Barcelona Knits, Swiss Yarn Festival, and Vogue Knitting Virtual. She also publishes her knitwear designs in magazines like Laine and on online platforms like Ravelry and Patreon. She teaches the popular "Understanging TopDown Sweaters" class in Munich, as well as techniques for casting on and casting off.

Irina Heemann...

...is the developer of a very special knitting technique for garments: "knitting without seams".

Irina studied fashion design in Germany and Switzerland, focusing on knitting, both hand and machine. She was fascinated by the use of short and prolonged rows for sock heels to create a seamless three-dimensional knit. She wondered why this technique wasn't used to shape garments. For her master's thesis, she studied the topic in detail and developed her pattern construction and knitting technique for seamless garments. The bias knitting direction makes Irina Heemann's designs concise and visually distinctive. Furthermore, stitches are never picked up from the edge in her designs. All the necessary stitches are on the needle: even the hem, button, and neck bands are worked directly into the garment. At the very end, only the cast on and cast off threads remain to be secured.

You can learn this innovative knitting technique in four workshops at Munich Knits 2025.

Theresia Lew...

...is also known on social media as “the PassioKnit Spinner” and, as the name suggests, has been addicted to spinning for more than 20 years.

She shares her passion with other spinning enthusiasts and beginners via YouTube, Patreon, and in personal classes. For three years now, she has been running a small studio in her hometown in the Allgäu region. In addition to spinning, she also dabbles in all kinds of other handcrafts, including sewing, quilting, knitting, weaving, embroidery, and crocheting. But spinning remains her absolute passion, which she enjoys sharing with others and also teaches during the Munich Knits Festival. Highly recommended for spinners and (spinning) beginners!

Brandon designs fabric collections for FreeSpirit Fabrics and has published several books, including Knitting with the Color Guys. His designs are inspired by everyday impressions—from bubble gum stains to tree bark—and feature bold color choices and playful shapes. He often uses the intarsia technique. Brandon is a long-time designer for Rowan Yarns and has designed numerous knitting patterns for the company. A passionate educator, he leads workshops worldwide and wants to encourage people to discover their own creative expression with color. Xandy graduated from Pratt Institute in New York City with a degree in Industrial Design and began his career as a shoe and product designer. He soon turned to knitwear design to explore textiles and finishes beyond industrial production. Xandy's designs can be found in publications such as Vogue and Designer Knitting, Twist Collective, Knitscene, Knitty, and Pom Pom Quarterly, as well as self-published on Ravelry.

He will be coming to us with his workshops on the "Stacked Stitch" technique, the all-day Fox Paws Shawl course and an inspiring workshop on Algorhythmic Stitch Patterns.

Linda Skuja...

...is an award-winning textile designer from Riga whose innovative and stylish crochet designs have appeared in international magazines such as Vogue Knitting Crochet, Interweave Crochet and Inside Crochet.

She is known for her distinctive crochet constructions, in which she uses textures, short rows, and 3D patterns. With her in-depth understanding of cutting, she creates dressy, fitting crochet patterns. Her inspiration comes from her Nordic roots in the Baltic nature and the urban landscape of Riga. Linda also designs for various fashion labels, and her designs have been featured at New York Fashion Week.

Her crochet courses during Munich Knits are suitable for the curious crocheter with intermediate to advanced knowledge of the technique.

Åsa Tricosa...

...Åsa (Ooh-sah or Awe-sah) is a Swedish knitwear designer who lives in Denmark with her Danish husband. She is the inventor of the Ziggurat (top-down) knitting technique for sweaters and cardigans.

Åsa has lived and knitted her way through Sweden, Denmark, New York, Boston, Singapore, Sussex (UK), and Germany. She is the author of the book "Ziggurat Sweaters" and has been teaching the knitting method she developed worldwide since 2011. Knitted seamlessly from the top down and with evenly set-in sleeves or contigious, this method allows you to knit sweaters and cardigans with an excellent fit. Åsa has since published numerous different knitting designs based on her technique.

At Munich Knits, she will be offering basic courses on the technique as well as a full-day course for a Ziggurat design of your choice.

Dario Tubiana...

...also known as Rosso Cardinale, is an Italian knitwear designer.

His passion for knitting began in childhood and developed into a professional career. He studied Creative Knitwear Design at the Accademia di Costume e Moda in Rome. As part of his training, he presented two of his own knitwear collections at the renowned Pitti Filati fashion fair in 2019. Dario has worked as a knitwear designer for United Colors of Benetton and Esprit. Since 2015, he has collaborated with international yarn brands such as mYak, LangYarns, Katia, and Prym, as well as with trade magazines such as The Knitter and Simply Knitting. His designs are characterized by the combination of intarsia and embroidery, which gives his work a special depth and color variety. He teaches intarsia and embroidery on knitwear at the Instituto Europeo di Design in Milan.

And of course at the Munich Knits 2025 wool festival.
